Tuesday, December 8, 2009 @ 06:12 PM

Web 3.0 Semantic Search

Below is a video from Kevin Kelly of Wired Magazine talking about Web 3.0 and Semantic Search.

The internet experiences about 100 billion clicks per day. It Contains approximately 55 trillion links between all of it’s pages. There are 1 billion pc chips on the internet, 2 million emails  and 1 million im messages  sent every second. The internet is so large that it takes 5% of the worlds electricity to keep it going. Now with all of that said the entire internet is equivalent to one human brain. So in 30 years from now the internet will be equivalent to 6 billion human brains.

The changes that are taking place in Web 3.0 semantic search technology are amazing. Google is indexing the world from it’s search results to it’s maps and they have launched a free GPS navigation system for it’s android software platform mobile devices. Semantic search will gather data not so much based on keyword searches but more of answer based and relevant content.

Keyword Searches VS Answer Based Solutions – Web 3.0 Semantic Search

Web 3.0 semantic search is about credible results. The days of  typing in a keyword and getting back a web page is web 2.0 now we are focused on answer based technology that produces credible results. Below is a panel of experts from Yahoo, Google, Bing and Ask that talk about this in more depth.

Google does not use keywords meta tag in search results

Google’s use of keyword meta tag’s in search results

Below is a video by Matt Cutts a Google Software Engineer talking about keywords in the search results.

There is a lot of hype on the internet about weather Google is using keyword meta tags in their search results and the answer is no. Many of our clients are so focused on keywords and forget the power of relevant content on their pages. Although a proper search engine optimization program is keyword driven they are not necessarily used in the keyword meta tags.

The first step is to gather as much information about the company as possible to understand their goals. We use what is called a business analysis document to develop an online marketing business plan. Once all of the pertinent data is collected we then conduct keyword research. This keyword data is compiled and used to procure relevant content, titles, descriptions, and url’s among other variables that affect a sites ranking in the search engines.

Today more than ever there are so many other ways that Google determines the placement of pages in their search results. A great example of this is the use of Google Maps business listings. Once your business is claimed and optimized correctly it opens up an entirely new market place and traffic source for your business.
